CHAPTER 4: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VOLTAGE, CURRENT, RESISTANCE, AND POWER IN ELECTRICITY

G eorg Ohm found that at constant temperature, the electrical current flowing through a fixed linear resistor is directly proportional to the applied voltage and inversely proportional to the resistance. This relationship between voltage, current, and resistance forms the basis of Ohm's law and is shown below.

OHM'S LAW

By knowing any two principles of the voltage, current, or resistance quantities, we can find the third missing value using Ohm's law. Ohm's law is used extensively in electronic formulas and calculations, so it is "very important to understand these formulas and remember them exactly.”

To find the voltage (V):

[V = I x R] V (voltage) = I (ampere) x R (Ω)

To find the current (I):

[I = V ÷ R] I (ampere) = V (voltage) ÷ R (Ω)

To find the resistor (R):

[R = V ÷ I] R (Ω) = V (voltage) ÷ I (ampere)
